Experience in the Psychology field

Experience

With over 10 years of experience in the field of psychology, I have started my trajectory working with autistic children back in Argentina in 2012, only after that I have decided to expand my knowledge by taking part of internships around the globe, such as in  Poland at a center for the Mental disable and Autistic person (“Warsztat terapii zajeciowej”, Wola, Warsaw, Poland) and also in China (MediciHs, Suzhou, China) same kind of institution, sponsored  by  the world wide well know organization called AIESEC. These two shorts (four month long each) but life changing experiences, has brought to this part of the world, where I think I can contribute with my western approach of the psychology as well and get nurtured by the approach here used. After years working in clinic psychology back in Argentina, I have decided to move to Japan to work as a therapist for the Spanish speaking community as well as English speaking expatriates. I have achieved that goal by working for the Nagoya international Center as part of their psychology staff, as well as working at my own office at Nagoya central, both jobs still on.

Through out the years working with foreigners living in Japan, and helping them to overcomes their issues, and despite their individualities and different contexts, I found some patterns that brought them to my consult, which is, suffering some mental issue and not being able to completely understand it, fully grasp it, and therefore, can not confront and do something about it, and end up relying in some medicine obtained by a psychiatrist that could not completely understand due to the language barrier, from both parties for the most part I must say, but the most important thing missing here is the necessary, obligatory in most cases, Psychology therapy along with the psychiatrist parallel work if needed.

These feeling of abandonment, that most of these patients usually express, most of the cases lead to hopelessness, and giving up on their mental health, lose hope and consequently get even worse, worse scenario leading to commit suicide.

Even sometimes I have received patients, especially children, that have been misdiagnosed, for the same obvious reason, sometimes, the language barrier can mean a bias while being evaluated, measured, tested, diagnosed.

That why, here we believe, that first, we have to interview, parental interview, patient interview, playtime, observation, context, conjectures and only after that, testing, with the goal of confirming or discarding mental condition, impairment, mental structure, etc. which should, ought to, be in more that 3 to 4 session at the least, even more sometimes, for a proper scientific rigor based examination.

We also reinforce the importance of therapy after visiting the psychiatrist, medication can only work for the short term and calm the current patient’s ailment.

We don’t discourage medication when is properly used, we only think it has to be complemented with psychology treatment, we work for the long term, at the origin of the problem, and that way, the patient’s life quality can be significantly improved overtime, even being able not to need medication anymore, we aim to re-learn, to re-think, and to make life changes for the rest of your life and for your future, and not only what is going on today. That is to say, we Psychologists attend to the so called ‘primary care’; the origin of the problem, before the phenomenal consequence occurs (‘tertiary care’). We work not only with the current consequence, but also aim the origin. We promote autonomy, and personal growth.

For all previously stated, for the most part, my patients usually come to not only with their actual problem, trauma, disorder, depression or another diagnose, but also with a plus of the felling of abandonment, hopelessness, and desperation.

Thus, we think therapy in the language that they speak, can actually help to overcome not only their mental issues itself, but also those previously difficulties stated up here in the previous paragraph, when finding a right treatment for the right diagnose in Japan.

ABOUT MY A
PPROACH
a new future

Although my approach falls within the theoretical framework of the cognitive behavioral therapy (this therapy's effectiveness has been scientifically proved), also framed under the psychoanalysis, cognitive psychology, modular-transformational approach, here,  the center of the therapy is based on the individual: each individual has its own way of experiencing its mental illness, its suffering, condition or problem as well its own way of cope with. Each individual has also its own context, and the issues, particular etiology, cause, causal/multicausality. Therefore, we start out from the individual to the most general, actively listening and observing the patient’s needs, for the short term but also, and most importantly, for the long term, what is manifest, and what is latent. In the first stage we attend to what is urgent and on the current suffering, we work on the beliefs and multiple -and sometimes wrong- interpretations that can be working in a maladaptive way that might be producing the erratically behavior and act-out. We achieve that by re-interpreting, de-constructing maladaptive thoughts and beliefs, re-learning, changing behavioral patterns, in order to promote the individual’s autonomy for a future relying on itself. We also, not only consider the current state and the current needs, but also take care of the past, we take back the patients and re construct his life trajectory in order to re think its own subjectivity, considering the past as a part of the present and the future ss well, integrating all the aspect and life moments as a whole.

Along with the treatments itself, we usually work on building a scientific rigor diagnose and prognosis, not only by making use of the spell of the word, and the clinic experience, but also using psychometrical tools created measure behavior, mental structure (projective tests) questionnaires, etc. that serves a proper and integral evaluation of the patient psychological structure and functioning. We promote self-discovering, self-learning, psycho-education, comprehension, re-interpretation, acceptance and commitment to the person’s own mental health.

We truly believe that initiating a psychology process is vital  life-changing vital moment, and me as a therapist, I am committed to,  not only help improving my patient's life quality and the current issues, but also to accompany and walk next to trhough the sometimes painful process of taking you back to the past and confronting it,  in order to re-think the present, so you can  build up a new future.
